Integrated solutions in climate action, WASH, ECD, health & nutrition, and protection
AHIU empowers communities by building their capacities and assets to achieve long-term income and well-being, even in the face of shocks and stresses. Use a people-centered, holistic, and dynamic approach, prioritizing community involvement and understanding how human, social, financial, physical, and natural capitals interact within specific policy and programme environments. Inventions include: climate smart agriculture practices, skills training, market-based support, and increasing access to financial services to enhance resilience and self-reliance
AHIU champions WASH and social infrastructure interventions to prevent disease, promote well-being, and build community resilience. In humanitarian contexts, our WASH interventions focus on addressing immediate needs through the provision of safe water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene promotion, often using temporary water supply systems. In development settings, we emphasize sustainability by supporting community-managed infrastructure, integrated planning, and alignment with national policies and long-term resilience strategies.
Early Childhood Development (ECD)We prioritize the holistic development of children from conception to school entry, with a special focus on those living in crisis-affected settings where children face heightened risks. Our key interventions include:
We work through cross-sectoral coordination and collaboration with governments, while using culturally and religiously sensitive approaches. This enables us to create safe, nurturing environments that help every child reach their full developmental potential.
We integrate climate action across our humanitarian and development work to build resilience, adapt to changing climatic conditions, and prevent future crises. Our key interventions include:
We design and implement activities to safeguard the rights, safety, and dignity of people affected by conflict, disasters, and crises. Our interventions ensure vulnerable populations are protected from violence, coercion, abuse, and deprivation. We particularly empower women, children, and youth by equipping them with essential life skills to protect and promote their rights, prevent and respond to Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and advance gender equality and inclusion.
AHIU supports integration of health and nutrition programs into general health systems, food security, WASH programs, and community-based care through networking, advocacy and community empowerment. We promote community preparedness and engagement, capacity building of local health care workers, and collaboration among multiple sectors to ensure comprehensive and effective response that enhances sustained well-being.
